Sidewalk Snow Removal Policy Review
This a current on-going issue. The unexpected winter turnout this year exposed the inefficiencies in the system.
Current situation:
~18 miles of sidewalks plowed
Proposed: cut to ~10–11 miles (primaries only)
Focus areas:
Main roads
Business districts
School routes
Crosswalk connections
Problems:
The size of the equipment is causing damage to the sidewalks
Crews traveling to isolated cul-de-sacs face dead ends with no connectivity
Not sustainable long-term
Next steps:
Develop Select Board policy defining “primary” sidewalks
No homeowner enforcement plan is currently favored
Private road snow removal may require a town meeting vote
Town Administrator Updates
DPW praised for snow response
The fire alarm panel at the Town Hall was replaced. There will be more upgrades coming soon.
Funding was secured to continue the town meeting childcare program
The Civic Leadership Academy begins on Wednesday. There are 3 people enrolled so far
