Mary's Menu

By Mary Crowley

Disclaimer: I want to preface this by saying how much I, along with the rest of Littleton Public Schools, immensely appreciate the work our lunch staff do. They are responsible for feeding hundreds of children nutritious, full meals every day and do always do so cheerfully. This column is not intended to berate them for their work but instead commentate on the products they are given by our government and are forced to make appetizing. We must also understand we are getting meals for free this year so they are not expected to be the best quality in the world.

Tuesday May 3rd - Barbecue Chicken

This lunch was seriously really good. Being a recurring meal here on the LHS menu, we’ve known for a while how good the chicken is. It’s always juicy, flavorful, and filling, but this time it was even better because we got DOUBLE the chicken, and sides!!! Very much appreciated. The only downside is the chicken is always super messy to eat, but a simple knife and fork can always solve that. 9/10.

Monday May 23rd - Fish Sticks

These fish sticks were actually surprisingly good, as far as processed fish sticks go. They has a good flavor, were a nice size, and weren’t disgustingly soggy. The coating wasn’t incredible but it functioned. When dipped in the tartar sauce the fish sticks got even better too, but I might be only saying that because I love tartar sauce more than anything on Earth. Overall, better than I expected. 5.5/10.

Thursday June 2nd - Waffles with Turkey(?) Bacon and Whipped Cream

It’s really hard to mess up a waffle and whipped cream, and this delivered just as expected. It was a good, filling portion with lots of syrup and cream to top it. The waffle didn’t really taste like anything but that is unsurprising and didn’t end up mattering that much since I doused it in toppings. The only thing I was confused about was what I think was turkey bacon(?). It was really horribly crispy and tough to eat and was super salty as well, so I did not enjoy it that much. Overall 5/10.
