Fantasy Football

by Arav Arora

Nerves pile up and tensions appear

as the date of our yearly fantasy football draft comes near.

I prepare hours and hours to find a perfect team,

for winning the league championship is my dream.

Walking to Dev’s house, I read my book about Sherlock Holmes,

But I keep getting distracted thinking of Patrick Mahomes.

The countdown begins and my brother’s team picks first.

He surprises no one and picks star Atlanta Falcons tight end, Hayden Hurst.

Waiting for my pick, four other players go off the board.

Sitting on Dev’s coach, I am anything but bored.

The clock counts down, and it is my turn to pick.

I look over the remaining players and the player Austin Ekkler is who I click.

After the death, I am happy with how my team looks,

But I feel sad that I couldn’t draft Brandon Cooks.

I scour the waiver wire each week,

But I never find the player I seek.

It’s the first day of the Sunday football and my team is ready to go,

But the injury of my star player on his first snap is a death blow .

Woj later reports that Ekkler has a torn knee ligament,

and I realize my team is in a huge predicament.
