Netflix Shows to Binge over Coronacation
Whether you like quarantine or not, we all have a lot more time on our hands, and a lot more access to our couch. Here are some of our editor-in-chief's favorite Netflix picks to spend all day watching.
American Vandal
This mocuseries follows Peter and Sam as they investigate an incident of vandalism on school property. The show incorporates interviews from the suspects, diagrams, maps and everything else you need to feel like you are solving the mystery right along with Peter and Sam. The second season features a similar incident at another school, which Peter and Sam are hired to solve after their mocuseries gains a following. The mystery and the characters will leave you wanting more long after you’ve finished the series.
Ragnarok
By the time you finish this strange Norwegian Netflix original series, strongly influenced by Norwegian mythology, you’ll be wishing for a second season (good thing the second season is coming out in 2021). The series follows Magne, a Norwegian teen, as he moves to a small town with his family. When Magne’s first and only friend dies under mysterious circumstances, he embarks on a journey to uncover what is really going on in Edda, and he discovers some unusual powers of his own along the way.
Schitt’s Creek
This family centered sitcom follows the wealthy celebrity family, the Rose family, after their fall from prosperity. They move to a small, rundown town called Schitt’s Creek that they bought as a joke years ago. The show has heartfelt moments along with numerous comedic scenes that will have you cheering for the characters’ successes and mourning their failures.
Daybreak
Following a biological nuke that turns every adult into a mumbling zombie, the teens of Los Angeles form tribes according to the categories they fell into in high school. Josh Wheeler, a loner in high school, seems to be thriving as he searches the post-apocalyptic landscape for his girlfriend while avoiding zombies and jokes. But Josh can’t survive on his own forever, he joins forces with a few others to form an eclectic group fighting to survive the apocalypse together. With numerous amounts of humor and 4th wall breaking, Daybreak seems like the perfect Gen Z watch for our times
The Haunting of Hill House
Based on the classic gothic horror novel of the same name by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House follows a family as they move into Hill House and how their stay affects each of them for the rest of their lives. Told out of chronological order between the summer they lived in the house, and about 20 years later, you will be left guessing what happened until the very end.
Santa Clarita Diet
Do you like zombies and also humor? Santa Clarita Diet is the show for you! When Sheila becomes a zombie through mysterious circumstances, her husband Joel and daughter Abby, along with the nerdy zombie expert next door, Eric, are enlisted to help her survive and get to the bottom of what happened to her. Between killing nazis, a talking head in the basement, and an unexpected romance, the hilarious one liners will leave you wanting more.
The Society
This modern take on Lord of the Flies located in a quaint New England town, will leave you wondering how the students at Littleton High School would survive if everyone else in the world disappeared. The students at West Ham return from a school field trip to discover everyone else has disappeared and so has every town outside of West Ham. The students are left to form a society of their own to ensure they don’t destroy each other. The show explores the complex relationships and cliques of high school in a post-apocalyptic world.
The I Land
This miniseries begins with 10 individuals waking up on a seemingly abandoned island with no recollection of how they got there. Part Lord of the Flies and part Ready Player One, the characters must work together to survive, or face the dangers of the island alone. Not the best executed show, but a fascinating concept.
100 Humans
If you loved Mythbusters and Brain Games when you were younger, this is the show for you. Three hosts ask questions and use their 100 human guinea pigs to carry out experiments that answer burning questions about human psychology.
