The Met Gala

Edited by Ella Byrne-Cabot

The Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is a party held annually that is dedicated to raising money for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Anybody who is anybody attends, either by paying the $30,000 ticket fee, getting an invite from a brand who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars buying a table, or just being famous enough to get on Vogue’s ‘it list’. Every year, a theme is chosen for guests to follow in their outfits. This year, the theme was ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. What does that even mean? Apparently, attendees of the Gala didn’t know either.

The Best and Worst of the Met Gala According the LHS Students

Dixie D'Amelio

“Serving up lame not yas energy.” - Allie Porter

When Dixie showed up in this yeti cosplay she was turning heads for all the wrong reasons. This ostrich feather headpiece looks more like a feather duster than anything else. Do better, Dixie D’Amelio. I bet she really “don’t wanna be happy” after this one.

Kim Kardashian

“Donda cosplay?” - Shelby Jean

‘Donda’ is the newest album of Kanye West, the man who was thought to have appeared at the Gala as Kim’s date dressed in a similar all black suit. New information has revealed that this is not the case, which disappointed fans who were hoping for a Kim and Kanye reunion. According to People Magazine, Kim filed for divorce back in February 2021, but the couple seems to be on speaking terms now.

Hunter Schafer

“If you ask me, this was one of the most riveting looks of the night. Hunter interpreted her own art style into her look while also giving us an innovative bodycon outfit. The white contacts and centerpiece on her face pull the whole look together.” - Anonymous

Barbie Ferreira

“Barbie Ferreira did not come to play in this elegant, bedazzled piece. She definitely made a statement with this eye-catching look that had everybody's heads turning, especially for her first ever Met gala.” - Grace Coppola

Kim Petras

“I understand where she is coming from, the ‘wild west’ and all that, but come on. She did not have to take it so literally! If nothing else, she’s definitely serving up horse girl realness.” - Anonymous

As much as I love weird fashion, this one definitely is a big no. The horse head bodice is creative, but the eyes are just a bit too realistic. What has this horse seen?
