Taylor Swift is one of the most openly hated celebrities in the world, but why? Is it because she’s a woman? Is it her ego? All the drama? Does she just simply make bad music? With such passionate fans, and possibly more passionate haters, it’s probably a combination of just about any reason you could think of.
Common excuses from Taylor Swift haters are usually related to one of three things: her music, the infamous Kanye feud, or something about her being “annoying.”
Now, as an avid Swiftie, I can admit that Taylor Swift may not have the best vocals in the world. Yes, some of her songs could be stronger. She should not be constantly flying in a private jet. With that being said, “Taylor Swift isn’t talented” is simply not a plausible statement. With 14 Grammy’s and over 100 other prestigious awards; Swift’s talent cannot be diminished. She even has an NYU doctorate! It’s a cheap argument to go right for something that she is no doubt good at: music.
So why do I think people actually hate Taylor Swift?
She’s a powerful woman. And there is so much deep-rooted misogyny in all of us. Including women and even little girls. For this article, I asked a Taylor Swift hater why they hate Taylor Swift. The first thing they said? “She’s annoying.” This is an “easy” complaint, and one we hear constantly about women who are just existing. Would I have gotten the same response if I asked about a popular male artist? People complain that she’s too pretty. She’s too skinny. She’s too popular. She dates too many guys. It is just so easy for us as a society to hate on women for anything and everything, as Swift knows better than anyone.
But, outweighing all the hate and negativity that surrounds Taylor Swift, is the love and joy she brings. The Swift-Kelce relationship brought fathers and daughters together during football season. She writes songs that make people feel seen. She invites superfans to her house and bakes them cookies. There is so much to love.
