Mary's Menu
By Mary Crowley
Disclaimer: I want to preface this by saying how much I, along with the rest of Littleton Public Schools, immensely appreciate the work our lunch staff do. They are responsible for feeding hundreds of children nutritious, full meals every day and do always do so cheerfully. This column is not intended to berate them for their work but instead commentate on the products they are given by our government and are forced to make appetizing. We must also understand we are still getting meals for free this year so they are not expected to be the best quality in the world.
October 19th - Chicken Pot Pie
I like to call myself a pie enthusiast. Savory, sweet, intricate, simple, no matter what, I am a fan. Therefore, I was pretty excited to see this on the menu and, in short, it got the job done. The actual chicken & vegetable mixture was pretty straightforward, it was a good consistency but didn’t really taste like anything. The biscuit on top was surprisingly really good, it reminded me of a Popeyes biscuit and I happily ate all of it. I despise green beans though so that made this lose a few points from me. Overall, 4.5/10
October 20th - Chocolate Chip Pancakes
This meal was a GODSEND! Seriously one of the best we’ve ever had.The toppings on the pancakes were exquisite, the fruit salad and cinnamon apples on the side were delicious, the sausage was as good as ever. This was the first time I ever devoured absolutely everything on my lunch tray. The only downside is that we don’t get to enjoy this treasure enough. 11/10
October 26th - Double Bacon Cheeseburger
This meal was very surprising! I expected it to be not very good, truthfully, but the actual product was far from it. The burger seemed nicely cooked, had a nice flavor, and the two patties helped distract from the less-than-desirable bread. The cheese was average but tolerable and the bacon was pretty good; nice and crispy and evenly spread over the sandwich. And the seasoned fries?! Amazing. So overall 7/10
