Mary's Menu
By Mary Crowley
Disclaimer: I want to preface this by saying how much I, along with the rest of Littleton Public Schools, immensely appreciate the work our lunch staff do. They are responsible for feeding hundreds of children nutritious, full meals every day and do always do so cheerfully. This column is not intended to berate them for their work but instead commentate on the products they are given by our government and are forced to make appetizing. We must also understand we are still getting meals for free this year so they are not expected to be the best quality in the world.
Tuesday January 10th - Fish Sticks
I am not going to lie, I had low expectations going into this lunch. The sins of frozen fish sticks past have soiled my impression of them. But I was pleasantly surprised! The fish sticks were crispy and didn’t taste awful, the packets of tartar sauce were surprisingly good, and the giant goldfish was an exciting addition. Solid 7/10.
Tuesday January 24th - Chicken Teriyaki Bowl
This meal was… interesting. The second I saw it I thought “this looks like a Lean Cuisine” and that ended up being a pretty accurate description. The chicken was soggy and the whole thing was bland overall, and I’m not a huge fan of the veggies included either. 4/10.
SPECIAL REVIEW: Friday January 27th - Semi Formal Dance Buffet
When I heard this dance was being catered I KNEW I needed to attend. The selection they had was actually really impressive; they had different salads, pastas, appetizer spreads, and more! The actual taste of the food wasn’t amazing but it got the job done. The cookies at the end though? Kinda bad. There was only one kind and they were far too big. 8/10.
