Suma Bhiravarasa - Navier Stokes Math Problem Finally Solved!!
The Navier Stokes equations were created to express the motion of fluids in a mathematical formula. These formulas are essential to STEM fields such as aeronautical engineering and environmental research because they allow scientists to calculate motion of fluid. For decades, mathematicians around the globe have tried to prove that either the equations could describe all conditions, or that they were completely senseless. Recently, OpenAI has claimed that ChatGPT finally solved the problem, proving that the equations sometimes produce a nonsensical solution. The AI was able to find one scenario where the equation failed, and used that as proof of solution. Ownership of the solution has been messy and creates a whole new challenge for how AI will be cited in the future.
Claire Whittaker - Japan will launch a mission to collect samples from another moon
The Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency(Jaxa) is launching a mission to Phobos, a Martian moon, with the intention that it will help future missions to Mars. Phobos is one of two small moons that orbit Mars. Scientists want to collect samples from Phobos specifically because Phobos is closer to Mars than Deimos, the other Martian moon, is; however, the mission will fly by Deimos, leading to samples potentially revealing information about how both moons formed and potentially more information about our solar system as a whole. Multiple attempts have been made to land on Phobos before but they have failed. This expedition is expected to take five years.

At the same time Open AI halts GPT-6.1 Astra release over safety concerns. In a statement to CNN, Saachi Jain, head of safety systems said that the new model “didn't quite meet the bar in terms of staying within scope and authorization, and how it communicates back to the user about the type of work it's done." There has been concern over security breaches and dishonesty in the system.
This announcement was made one day before Trump announced that many large AI companies have now signed an accord stating to work on self-policing AI development.
